Modifications vs Accommodations

We accommodate the needs of students by removing impediments to curricular access whenever possible. Adaptations can look like offering a different mode of content delivery, lowering quantitative expectations, allowing for more time, or providing options for more accessible modes of showing understanding, among many others. While we are adapting for accessibility, the curricular competency expectations remain the same. The decision to modify curricular goals is not taken lightly and only happens after grade ten. This is because a modified curriculum precludes the student's eligibility for a Dogwood Diploma. Students on a modified curriculum set developmentally appropriate goals that are generally focused toward ensuring as much autonomy as possible in their adult life.
